What if the pickup location has too much traffic?

Problem

Some pickup locations have too much traffic to safely and efficiently pickup a rider.

Solution

Rather than pickup the rider at a location that is unsafe and inefficient due to having too much traffic, instruct the self-driving vehicle to pickup the rider at a secondary pickup location.

Instruct the Vehicle to Pickup the Rider at a Location With Less Traffic

Self-driving vehicles are sometimes asked to pickup riders at locations that have too much traffic. If a primary pickup location has too much traffic, the system can instruct the vehicle and rider to meet at a secondary pickup location that has less traffic.

For example, if a primary pickup location is in a very busy airport arrivals section, the system can instruct the vehicle and rider to use a secondary pickup location in a less busy part of the airport. If the primary pickup location in a busy area by an exit to a stadium, the system can instruct the vehicle and rider to use a secondary pickup location that is a block away.

Updating the pickup location to a less busy area can save time and create a safer, more relaxing pickup experience.
